1. Salsa Dancing Will Help You Build Confidence

Salsa dancing will help you build self-esteem that will manifest to other aspects of your life. Once you become more confident on the dance floor and meeting new people it will be easier for you to interact with other people that you meet daily.

Salsa dancing gives you an opportunity to create beautiful moves and poses, which will make you feel good about what your body is capable of. Over time, your comfort and familiarity with yourself will grow and you will be able to look at yourself in a more positive light.

2. Salsa Dancing Tones Your body

Salsa dance movements engage multiple muscle groups at the same time, which helps tone your entire body. Salsa dancing is a great way to build a perfect body shape. It helps to strengthen and tone your legs while losing weight. Salsa is a combination of aerobic and anaerobic training that improves your stamina and leg strength. It consists of various step sequences that exercise all major muscle groups such as glutes, calves, hamstrings, quadriceps, and core. The upper body and arms will get a workout as well because you must maintain a specific position.

3. Emotional Benefits of Salsa Dancing

It has been scientifically proven that salsa dancing (or any dancing) significantly reduces stress hormone and depression while releasing endorphins (happiness hormones). When you are dancing salsa your mind is in the moment because you are thinking about the steps you need to take and you are completely focused on the music and surroundings.

Salsa dance is unique in that sense because you need to be in constant awareness while maintaining a connection with your partner. These mindful moments help to diminish the negative thought process that is associated with depression and stress. Just let all worries go and dance!

I find myself often busting a few salsa moves whenever I am feeling down. It helps lift my mood instantaneously! Just turn up some good salsa music and dance.

4. Salsa Dancing Improves Balance

Maintaining a good body balance and coordination is very important in salsa dancing. However, you will not have a good balance when you just start dancing and that is ok. When I just started salsa dancing my balance was terrible. It seemed like I was drunk every time I tried to spin haha.

As I learned each movement and begun to gain increased flexibility and strength, my posture and balance naturally improved while making each step easier to complete.

5. Salsa Dancing Improves Brain Function

Besides lifting your mood and relieving anxiety, salsa dancing helps in keeping your mind sharp. You might ask how? Salsa dancing requires you to remember various sequences and steps so your brainpower is boosted which helps to improve memory.

Salsa dancing incorporates brain functions at once such as rational, emotional, musical, and kinesthetic. Applying these brain functions at once help fire up neural activity and aids in the reduction of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

6. Salsa Dancing Helps With Weight Loss

According to Fred Astaire, salsa dancing helps you burn about 400 calories per hour. Salsa is extremely fun and you are more likely to stick to an exercise routine if you are having fun. The more you stick to the routine, the more likely you will see the results. An hour of salsa dancing could pass by and you wouldn’t even notice! If you have a salsa dance partner, make them hold you accountable so you are more likely to stick to your plan.

7. Salsa Dancing Will Help You Look Younger

Salsa dancing is especially beneficial in making you look younger because it slows down the aging process. It improves your heart function, lung capacity, and cardiovascular system. Simply put, you will feel better overall, and it will reflect on your physical appearance!

As you continue dancing salsa, you will notice improved flexibility in your body. Stretching before and after salsa dancing is crucial for better body movements and avoiding injuries. As you continue to stretch before and after every dance, you will notice a wider range of motion and your salsa dancing will become much easier.
